Short-term Rentals

A short-term rental (STR) as defined in STR Ordinance 395 is a home, cabin, condominium, town-home or similar building that is advertised as, or held out to be, a place where sleeping quarters are furnished to the public on a nightly, weekly, or for less than a 30-day period and is not a bed and breakfast, resort, hotel or motel. Before you advertise and operate a STR property within the City of Crosslake, you are required to have an approved STR license.

Short-Term Rental License Steps

1. Review STR Ordinance 

2. Collect and complete the documents listed below.

• Crosslake Short-Term Rental Application
• Notarized Documents
  • Short-Term Rental Self Compliance Affidavit
  • Short-Term Rental Local Representative & Owner Authorization Affidavit
  • Short-Term Rental Insurance Affidavit
• Health and Life Safety Guidance
• A copy of the designated local representative’s driver’s license showing a physical address within 30 minutes of the rental property.
• Septic Compliance
• Method of payment for the $750.00 license fee – Bank Account Information or Credit Card.

3. Insure your property is ready for a fire inspection and complete the STR Fire & Life Safety Inspection Checklist. You will schedule the fire and life safety inspection when all documents are completed. Please schedule this inspection by contacting chief1@crosslake.net

• Once the inspection has been completed and approved you will receive an inspection document from the Crosslake Fire Department.
